Your e-bike is a powerful, reliable companion, but like any machine, it needs a little care to keep it running at its best. Here’s a quick guide to help you ride safely and extend your e-bike’s life.
DOs: What You Should Do
- Store it properly. Keep your e-bike indoors or in a dry, sheltered area. Avoid long exposure to rain, direct sunlight, or freezing temperatures.
- Clean it regularly—but gently. Wipe down your bike with a damp cloth. Avoid spraying water directly at electrical components or using pressure washers.
- Charge smart. Use the original charger and charge in a dry, cool place. Disconnect the charger once full. Partial charging is fine and often better for battery health than always going from 0 to 100%.
- Keep your chain and moving parts lubricated. Apply bike-specific lubricant to the chain and check for dirt or grime buildup.
- Check tires, brakes, and bolts. Before each ride, make sure tires are properly inflated, brakes are responsive, and bolts are tightened.
- Follow the weight limit. Always stick to the manufacturer’s load capacity. Overloading affects performance and safety.
- Service your e-bike regularly. We recommend a full service every 6–12 months, or more frequently if you ride daily.
DON’Ts: Avoid These Mistakes
- Don’t assume it’s waterproof. E-bikes are water-resistant, not waterproof. Light rain is okay, but avoid riding through floods, washing with high-pressure water, or storing it wet.
- Don’t store the battery in extreme temperatures. Hot cars or freezing garages can damage battery cells. Keep it indoors if not in use.
- Don’t open or tamper with the motor or battery. Leave technical repairs and internal components to professionals. DIY fixes can be dangerous and void warranties.
- Don’t ride with a loose battery. Always check that your battery is secure before riding.
- Don’t ignore warning signs. If the display shows errors or the bike makes unusual sounds, stop and have it checked.
- Don’t overcharge or leave plugged in overnight often. While occasional overcharging won’t ruin the battery, it’s best not to make it a habit.
Is My E-Bike Waterproof?
Short answer: No.
E-bikes are usually rated IPX4–IPX6, meaning they can handle splashes and rain, but they should not be submerged or sprayed directly with water. Think: drizzle, not downpour.
Extra Tip: Register and Secure Your Bike
If your bike has a serial number or tracking feature, register it. Use a sturdy lock when parking outside—even for short stops.
